May Meeting Notes

A BIG thank you to Rene, Pattie, and Linda for opening their homes to us for the May House Tour.  We had beautiful weather to tour their lovely homes.  Everyone enjoyed seeing the quilts displayed throughout and there were more than a few inspirations that I'm sure will end in some new quilts.  The house tours are always a motivating event.  Once again, thank you!

If you noticed that there was no April update, I apologize.  I had an exceptionally busy month and the monthly post took a back seat.  The April meeting was our first visit to our new meeting location -- the Kredendorf (sp?) library on Highway K.  Millie and Marilyn demonstrated a couple of rulers and showed some lovely quilts made with them.  Some careful notes were taken and I hope to see some new quilts at show and tell made with those rulers.  Thank you Millie and Marilyn.  The library will be a great meeting place.  We have more space to spread out, the chairs are comfortable, and we even have a few tables for our use.

We like the new meeting space, but we're not using it in June.  Marilyn Webert is planning our June meeting.  We will be having a picnic in the park.  She is carefully investigating park pavilions that are available.  If we need to reserve one, it will be $1-$2 to chip in for the fee that day.  It is a brown bag meeting...meaning bring your own lunch and drinks.  Sharing dessert is always welcome!  In addition to a picnic, we are having a trunk sale/swap.  All members are encouraged to load your car trunk with items that you would like to sell or swap.  It can be anything from fabric, to notions, to sewing machines, etc.  Everyone will pull into the same row of parking spots across from each other and we'll open the trunks and start browsing.  As always, there will be show and tell at the end.  We hope that you can join us!  Location to be announced later.

Lastly,  I think that we can have a show and tell photo section in this blog.  I will investigate that option and let you know.  It would be nice if our members could post pictures of their latest projects.

March Meeting Notes

Greetings from cold and snow covered  Kinderhook, Illinois!  Although I was out of town for our meeting this morning.  I have a short update about our meeting.

I hear that the ruler session went very well.  Plans for next month were put in place.  We're going to the library!  The April meeting will be held at the Mittendorf Library which is on Highway K in O'Fallon.

We were not able to book the bus for the June trip since not enough people signed up.  We'll have to plan something else for June.

See you in April!!

Guild Bus Trip!!

One of the things planned at our meeting this week is a quilt shop bus trip for our June meeting.  Linda Ivy has agreed to make the arrangements for us.  She checked into a bus for us, but it requires quick planning to lock in the price.  So here's the plans:

Bound Together Bus Trip
Bus leaves O'fallon at 7:00 a.m.
Travel to
Sew Sweet Quilt Shop in Brunswick, MO
Then a stop at Satin Stitches in Columbia, MO
back home between 6:30 - 7:00

Trip includes:
Catered boxed lunch in Brunswick

Price:
$35

We need to have a headcount by Monday, February 18 to keep this price.  Please let us know if you plan to join us.  It will be a fun day!  This is a nonrefundable commitment, so please keep that in mind when you sign up.  We hope that you can join us!
I'm helping Linda by tracking the RSVP's, so please send your response to me at KarlaRichardson1@live.com .  Thanks!

February "Hand Work" meeting

Our February meeting had a nice surprise. We showed up with sad hearts knowing that all of our local quilt shops are in the process of closing. Rene, our February volunteer meeting hostess, happened to discover that a visitor in the shop is actually thinking of starting a quilt shop in the same area as Blessings. She invited Kelly to chat with our group to discuss what customers look for in a quilt shop. It was a nice surprise for everyone and a great discussion. Thank you Rene!!

While doing our hand work, we discussed the agenda for most of the meetings this year. Our March meeting will be held at Blessings as usual. We'll be having some ruler tutorials and everyone is encouraged to bring a ruler that is giving you trouble so that we can help each other figure it out.

We ended the meeting with a wonderful show and tell. Everyone has been very busy!

2013 -- Off to a good start.

Last month's meeting went well.  The theme was storage and organization.  There were so many clever ideas shared by everyone.  I put together a slide show and everyone shared their ideas.  It was a great discussion!

There were quite a few pictures of all the great ideas.   I was asked if there is a way to get a copy of the presentation.   The only idea that I have is to create a DVD for people.  If you would like a copy of the presentation, please feel free to bring a blank DVD to the next meeting.  I would be happy to copy the presentation onto it for you.

Our next meeting is our annual "handwork" get together.  Everybody bring in something to work on, pull up a chair, and let's talk.  Rene is the organizer for the meeting and she would like to discuss future meeting ideas, how to structure our guild now that Barb has retired as leader, and where we would like to meet in the future now that Blessings will be closing.

To help keep our guild going during this transition, I have taken the initiative to set up this blog.  I'll post notes from each of the meetings and throw in a few pictures each month.  Feel free to make comments and ask questions on here.  We also still have our yahoo forum, so don't forget to check in there.

See you on Wednesday!
